for the sale of the plant on a commission basis and a number of large items of plant were sold
by him.
Towards the end of 1937, however,
notice was given that Government desired to
terminate this arrangement with effect from 1st
January, 1938. Subsequently necessity arose of
effecting repair work to the Pineapple Pass Dam which has been the subject of separate
correspondence and Mr. Hull agreed to accept
responsibility for the supervision of that work,
for which some of the plant in question was
required. An unexpected difficulty also arose,
owing to the extreme pressure on the available
storage space in the Colony, in the actual
physical taking over of the plant.
factors caused delay in the transfer but the
whole of the plant was taken over later in the
year by the Controller of Stores. A number of
small items have now been either sold by auction
or taken into stock by the Public Works or Railway
Departments and the remaining plant is in the
custody of the Controller of Stores.
These two
Sales are
still being made as opportunity offers but it is
now anticipated that some of the plant may be
required for new water works which are in
contemplation. The question referred to by the
Auditor regarding the derrick which was transferred
to a private company has now been satisfactorily
settled, the derrick having been purchased by the
company.
